Why is the download rate so low? Can't download anything. I have 8 kB/s from the start on the new site, and the previous one was fine. I have a permanent connection of 600Mb/s.

3 years agoYou're the first and only person to have reported slow speeds that I'm aware of. I know this doesn't help you at all, but my first reaction is to assume the problem is somewhere on your end. Beyond that, I have no idea. Are you saying this problem has persisted throughout the entire 6 months this new site has been up, or just recently?

3 years agoYeah!! I'm confused too!!
The speed of the website itself should be identical to the old site, all things considered given both sites are on the same server even allowing for code differences between Joomla and PHP-Fusion.
All of the files here are hosted via Mediafire and NOT through the site hosting. These span THREE different accounts and as kitsunebi stated previously, no-one else has made any comments about the download speeds. Hey, I'm absolutely sure Mediafire get hammered at times and probably implement speed throttling to control bandwidth. I might not see that as I am on the opposite side of the world to most members so maybe my downloads are okay at 9:00pm here because you are all at work at 9:00am over there in the EU?
But unless people donate/contribute a swag load of money to purchase a large volume (3TB+) file hosting plan from an alternate provider Mediafire is it I am afraid.

3 years agoIn case anyone is interested, the cheapest option I can see for alternate file hosting with enough storage capacity looks to be MEGA with their Pro II plan giving 8TB of storage for around $240US / 200EU / $340NZ.
There sure is plenty of additional space for expansion with that plan that's for certain!!

3 years agoMaybe try downloading through a VPN and see if there's any difference. Windscribe has a free plan and it's easy to get 50GB/month.
I have it from the beginning of the new page. I thought it was a temporary failure but it has been taking a long time and that's why I wrote. I use many websites from all over the world and this is the only problem. I will continue to look for a solution. Thanks for the answers.

3 years agoWell as Kiwi pointed out, all downloads here are Mediafire links, so if your speed issues are only when you're trying to download magazines, then your problem is with them and has nothing to do with OGM's new website, as it used Mediafire links on the old site as well, I believe.
Some countries/ISPs will intentionally block or throttle their users' access to certain domains. Perhaps your country/ISP doesn't care for Mediafire? As larare suggested, I'd advise you to use a VPN and see if you're still affected. (I'd advise you to use a VPN even if you WEREN'T affected. Can't be too careful these days...)
